Could we really end up replacing British potatoes with solar panels owned by a Belgian investment fund – and buying the potatoes back from Belgium?
Aukera plans to industrialise productive Cheshire farmland currently used to grow British potatoes, replacing crops with thousands of solar panels. Yet Belgium is itself one of Europe’s largest potato producers. We could therefore find ourselves giving up productive British farmland and importing from Belgium the very food we currently grow here.
